A four-door ultra-luxurious grand touring sedan will be the first vehicle in the troubled British brand’s comeback.
Although there is still some uncertainty around Jaguar’s intentions for reinvention, we now know that the company’s ascent to the pinnacle of luxury, or at least the attempt to do so, will start with the launch of a new electrified four-door grand tourer.
The premium electric vehicle will be full-size, according to pictures that Jaguar provided of a disguised prototype being tested on UK roads. It also has a sharply slanted windshield and a very long hood.
The term I-type is suggested in a recent U.S. trademark filing, which makes sense considering that Jaguar’s initial EV attempt was called I-Pace.
Although the SUV type created a big impression when it first came out, its 240-mile driving range caused it to fall behind more contemporary competitors. Production of the vehicle terminated in 2024.
The new model, whether or not it is dubbed the I-type, is expected to have two motors and all-wheel drive, and it should be able to drive for at least 300 miles on a single charge.
Although Jaguar has not disclosed the powertrain specifications, we do know that the vehicle will use a revolutionary electrical architecture. Pricing is still unclear, although we believe the I-type will probably cost six figures given Jaguar’s aspirations to become premium.
The new Jaguar will compete with vehicles like the Rolls-Royce Spectre, Mercedes-Maybach EQS680 SUV, and Cadillac Celestiq after making the daring decision to switch from selling luxury SUVs in the $70,000 area to electric cars in the $200,000 level. High-end furniture, state-of-the-art technology, and strong performance are necessary for it.
As the business prepares to reveal a concept car at Miami Art Week in December 2024, we should soon be able to get a taste of Jaguar’s new design language. A strong dose of curb appeal wouldn’t hurt too.
